People with crooked or crowded teeth often assume metal braces are their only hope for obtaining a beautiful, even smile. Patients are often hesitant to endure the discomfort and appearance of metal braces. As a result, some people avoid undergoing orthodontic treatment to correct misalignment. At The Silverstrom Dental Group, we offer an alternative to traditional metal braces. Your Livingston dentists, Dr. David Silverstrom and Dr. Gary Silverstrom, offer our patients innovative Invisalign clear braces.
What is Invisalign?
Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires to reposition teeth and relieve misalignment. Invisalign employs a series of removable and clear plastic aligners. Your Livingston dentists will examine your teeth and take impressions, x-rays, and photographs. Using these materials, a series of aligners will be fabricated. The patient then wears the aligners each day for between 20 and 22 hours as recommended by Dr. David or Gary Silverstrom.
Approximately every two weeks, they will upgrade to a new set. Over the course of about a year, the patient’s smile will be gradually and gently corrected. Teens may require up to 18 months.
The Benefits of Invisalign Clear Braces
The Invisalign system offers multiple benefits over traditional orthodontics. Since the aligners are custom-made from plastic, patients report a reduction in the gum and cheek irritation often associated with metal braces. Patients don’t need to alter their diet. Wit metal braces, hard or sticky foods may damage or become stuck in the orthodontics. Removable aligners also make brushing and flossing your teeth easier, improving oral hygiene and reducing the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and teeth stains.
For teens, Invisalign provides up to six replacement aligners, easing parents’ fear of lost or misplaced aligners. Finally, patients don’t need to attend frequent office visits for adjustments. On average, you will only need to see your Livingston dentists once every six weeks, saving both time and money.
