Our smile is the most noticeable and memorable thing about us. Because we all love to make a good impression, making sure our teeth look good is important. If you need dental services for your teeth to get the perfect smile, here are some of the popular options available:

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin layers that are made to fit snugly over the front surface of a tooth. Veneers can be ceramic or made of resin. They are used to mask tooth discoloration, chipped or misshapen teeth, worn teeth and gaps between teeth. They are also used to hide colored fillings in front teeth. Veneers are stain resistant, unlike our natural teeth. They are also durable and easy to fit.

Before the procedure, a thin layer of the smooth enamel is scraped off to help the veneers better adhere to the teeth. A mold of the teeth is then taken to make the veneers. The process of fitting veneers is simple.

First, an adhesive or bonding material is prepared and applied to the surface of the teeth. The veneers are then skillfully placed over the adhesive. Once veneers are fitted, they cannot be removed because they are designed to be durable. Veneers can only be fitted into a healthy mouth.

Dental bonding

Dental bonding is the application of a putty-like, tooth-colored resin to discolored, broken or misshapen teeth. Bonding can also be used to fill cavities and gaps in teeth. The bonding procedure is easier than the process of fitting veneers.

The dentist first prepares the tooth’s surface where the resin is to be applied by making the surface rough by etching. It’s done to make the resin adhere to the tooth better. The surface is then coated with a thin layer of conditioning liquid to make the resin adhere well to the tooth.

Finally, the putty-like resin is applied to the tooth and molded into the desired shape. Ultraviolet light is then shone onto the bonding to harden it. The bonding is further shaped and smoothened so that it blends in with the other teeth.

Bonding is easier and more cost effective to do compared to crowns and veneers. However, bonding is less tough and less durable than veneers.

Onlays

Onlays are a better alternative to tooth fillings for rear teeth that do not have enough damage to warrant a crown. They are more durable than fillings, lasting up to thirty years. They also strengthen the tooth, prolong tooth life and prevent further dental work.

To fit an onlay, the damaged tooth is anesthetized and cleaned. A mold of the tooth is taken. Using the mold, an onlay that fits perfectly into the damaged tooth is made. The damaged tooth is covered, so as to protect it until a second visit when the onlay is fitted.

On the second visit, the cover of the damaged tooth is removed. The onlay is adjusted onto the damaged tooth until it fits perfectly. It’s bonded onto the existing tooth with an adhesive resin. Finally, it is smoothened until it looks like a natural tooth.
